The glass is melted, spun into a mat then compressed to the R rating of choice.

Some glasswool batts manufacturers add phenol formaldehyde as the binding agent for the product.
Some overseas manufacturers may use more than the acceptable limit so be careful where you buy from.

Knauf Earthwool Batts are made overseas which use an organic binder in replacement of formaldehyde.
